If you punch a Nazi, I'll suture your hand for free.

The civil unrest in the US is frightening, maddening, depressing, and completely unsurprising given the current administration and climate in the US. Trumpitis is escalating to a fever pitch. I'm not shocked, I'm disappointed. Genocide is evil. Hating someone because of the melanin content of their skin is ridiculous. Hating someone or even fearing them for their gender identity or expression is asinine. I don't have much more to say on it. No, that's not true, I have more to say on this than a mere Doctor's blog can contain. Standing up to bigotry as a family doctor is important to me, because people, human beings, are important to me. Their happiness, their lives, their love and their families matter to me. They should matter to everyone else, too.

Now allow me to change gears.

One thing that has been keeping me positively focused while this terrible tsunami of bigotry washes over the US is my business plan.

I have been working hard to get things together while still keeping up with my current insane workload. I have my new EMR, I have my malpractice insurance set up, I have been chipping away at my website and making slow progress in finding a location in the East Renton Highlands.

The other week I drove to every dentist, chiropractor, and medical-like facility in the East Renton Highlands, hoping to find a space to sublet. After receiving a puzzled look and harsh rejection from one office manager, instead of discouraged, I felt emboldened to keep trying. (I had found a place I could rent but the price was astronomical (thanks a lot, Amazon boom!) that renting it might compromise my commitment to low membership fees for my practice.) So after speaking to more than a dozen office managers and front office staff I think I made some headway. I feel optimistic that I'll be settling on a sublease pretty soon, perhaps by the Month's end!

Getting Oodle Family Medicine off the ground has been a welcome respite from the hate permeating the country today. And it's a hell of a lot healthier coping skill than sheet cake!
